We have a number of standing committees that focus on specific areas of importance that include but are not limited to: housing, youth, criminal justice, veteran affairs, political action, education, environmental justice and so much more.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE

EDUCATION COMMITTEE
The branch engages in working toward those activities and events that will equalize the playing field for minorities as coordinated by Bernard Clay, Chairman. We monitor the services and resources provided by the Chicago Public Schools; host forums, seminars, and workshops; give scholarships and school supplies; participate in rallies, and work with partners to support the goals of a quality education for all.

HEALTH COMMITTEE
Our Health Committee has been doing an outstanding job in making certain that individuals have access to proper screening for prostate cancer, HIV/Aids, hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes, etc. They have hosted health fairs, distributed information regarding resources, and testified at hearings.

HOUSING COMMITTEE
The Housing Committee Chairman, Phyllis Logan, is doing a fantastic job of keeping the community informed of the various instruments that are available to individuals who may be facing foreclosure on their properties. The committee has educated over one thousand individuals in financial literacy and home ownership.

LEGAL REDRESS
The Legal Redress Committee is at the forefront of addressing discrimination in all areas including but not limited to employment, housing, health, education etc. While we do not have the capacity to handle individual cases, we do provide referral services. The NAACP does enter into class action suits when discrimination affects a group of individual. The branch has supported legislation and is very active in regards to sentencing, expungement, excessive force by police, etc.

LABOR AND INDUSTRY
The Labor and Industry committee advocates for a living wage, jobs, and fair employment practices. The branch has hosted job fairs and assisted individuals in job readiness skills. The branch also encourages affirmative action in their hiring practices.

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
The branch encourages citizens to take on the responsibility of citizenship by registering to vote, learning the issues, and helping to get the vote out. The branch offers training sessions for deputy registrars, hosts candidates’ forums, and training sessions for those seeking public office.
